He was a non-drafted signee with the Yankees in 2004.[1] The Yankees view Núñez as a possible replacement at shortstop for Derek Jeter.[2] Following the 2009 season, Núñez was added to the 40-man roster to protect him from the Rule 5 draft.[3] In 2010, he was named to the International League All-Star team[1] the postseason All-Star team,[4] and the Topps Triple-A All-Star Team.[5] Núñez was called up to the majors for the first time on August 19, 2010 after Lance Berkman was placed on the 15-day DL.[6] Nunez debuted on the same day, replacing Derek Jeter in the 7th inning and fouling out in his only plate appearance.
